Refund and Returns Policy

Last updated: 31 July 2026

House of Tin is a trading name of Atlas Trading and Consulting. This policy applies to orders placed through houseoftin.co.za.

It works alongside the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA). Nothing in this policy removes any right you have under those laws.

Contact us about any return: sales@houseoftin.co.za

1. Cancellation within the 7 day cooling off period

Purchasers who are individuals, rather than businesses, may cancel an order placed through this website within 7 days of receiving the goods. No reason is required and no penalty applies. This right is granted by section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.

To exercise it, please:

  1. Send written notice of cancellation to sales@houseoftin.co.za within 7 days of delivery, quoting your order number.
  2. Return the goods unused and in their original packaging, together with any accessories, fittings, or documentation supplied with them.
  3. Arrange and pay for the return of the goods. On request, we will arrange collection on your behalf and deduct the courier cost from the refund. Rates are quoted before collection is booked.

Refunds are processed within 30 days of receipt of the cancellation notice, as the Act requires. In practice, we settle within 5 working days of the goods reaching us and passing inspection.

Where goods are received back used, damaged, or in a condition resulting from inadequate packing for return transit, we may deduct a reasonable amount reflecting the reduction in their value. Any deduction will be quantified and explained to you in writing before the refund is processed.

2. What the cooling off period does not cover

The 7 day right does not apply to goods we make or finish to your instruction. For us that means:

  • Custom fabricated items, including shelving built to your sizes
  • Powder coated orders in a colour you selected
  • Branded goods, including sticker branded or printed buckets and baths
  • Any other special or bulk order produced to your brief

Once production has started on a custom order, it cannot be cancelled for a refund. If you are not sure whether your order counts as custom, ask us before you pay and we will confirm in writing.

3. Damaged in transit, wrong item, or short delivery

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. Metal travels badly and dents happen.

Tell us within 3 working days of delivery if:

  • An item arrived dented, bent, or otherwise damaged
  • You received the wrong product or the wrong quantity
  • Part of your order is missing

Email sales@houseoftin.co.za with your order number, photos of the goods, and photos of the packaging as it arrived. Keep the packaging until the matter is settled.

We collect the goods at our cost and either replace them or refund you in full, including the delivery fee you paid. The choice is yours.

4. Faulty goods: your 6 month warranty

Every product carries the implied warranty of quality set out in section 56 of the CPA.

For 6 months from delivery, if goods are defective, unsafe, of poor quality, or not fit for their ordinary purpose, you may return them at our risk and cost. You decide whether we repair them, replace them, or refund you.

Email sales@houseoftin.co.za with your order number, photos, and a short description of the fault. We arrange collection.

What counts as normal for galvanised steel

Galvanised products are dipped, not painted, so no two are identical. The following are normal characteristics of the product and are not defects:

  • Variation in the spangle pattern, and colour or shade differences between batches
  • Small surface marks, dull patches, drip lines, or runs left by the galvanising process
  • Marks on the base and rim from manufacture and handling
  • Minor dimensional variation on hand finished items
  • White rust, a light powdery bloom, where products have been stored damp or stacked wet without airflow

What is not covered

  • Damage that happened after delivery, including accidents, misuse, and neglect
  • Goods that have been cut, drilled, welded, repainted, or otherwise altered
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Corrosion caused by prolonged contact with fertiliser, cement, chemicals, acids, salt water, or standing water
  • Goods used for something other than their intended purpose, including use over an open fire
  • Goods bought from one of our stockists rather than directly from us. In that case, please take it up with the store you bought from.

5. Wholesale, trade, and bulk orders

If you order for a business, the 7 day cooling off period in section 1 does not apply to you. Sections 3 and 4 still do.

Bulk stock returns outside those sections are by arrangement only. Contact us before sending anything back. Where we agree to take stock back, a handling charge may apply and the goods must be unused, unbranded, and in original packaging.

Custom, branded, and powder coated orders are not returnable.

6. How refunds are paid

Refunds go back the way you paid. If a card refund is not possible, we pay by EFT into the account the payment came from.

Delivery fees are refunded when the return is our fault, for example a faulty, damaged, or incorrect item. They are not refunded when you simply change your mind.

7. If you are not happy with the outcome

Contact us first at sales@houseoftin.co.za and give us a chance to fix it.

If we cannot resolve it between us, you can escalate to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, free of charge:
